Montenegro enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers in the coast but in the mountains it has alpine conditions. Summers start in April and goes on till October. The temperatures range around 27°C. Winters are mild near the coast with temperatures ranging of about 15°C but in the mountains there is snow.
One of the most medieval town in Montenegro, Kotor lies on the Adriatic coast. It is a fortified town nestled among high and steep mountains. It has a Venetian feel especially in the Old Town with the 12th-century Cathedral of Saint Tryphon showcasing it in its true splendour. The carved stone altar is a great example of the stone masonry skills that were prevalent in the middle ages. Hikers can also have a great time at this place, trekking up to the upper town walls to the hilltop fortress and get stunning views of the city.
An ideal place for adrenlaine junkies, the park has excellent hiking routes. It lies around the mountain village of Zabljak in the Dinaric Alps and has 18 glacial lake and the Tara River, which has got the second deepest gorge in the world. Some of the popular acitivities here include snowboarding and skiing along with whitewater rafting and trekking. Nature lovers can feast their eyes on varied wild life found here- from 163 bird species to wild boars, bears and the largest varieties of butterflies found in Europe.
Located in the heart of Montenegro’s coastline, Budva has a beautiful Old Town, pristine beaches and many cultural monuments that attract tourists from all over the world. You can explore the town on foot walking through the Venetian maze of stone streets with a 15th century citadel as its anchor. The city also has a vibrant nightlife with numerous nightclubs and cafes dotting the town.
It is a small town located in the northwest of Kotor. It has beautiful fjord-like bay and is renowned for its stone-crafted villas and magnificent and old churches. There are picturesque chapels located on small islets dotting the entire island. Some of the main ones include the Church of St. Nikola, Our Lady of the Rocks and St. George with gorgeous view of the town.
It is a part of the Mount Loven National Park, this mountain is capped by two huge peaks that attract tourists. Hikers would love the climb up to the peak and also the view of the city of Koto, the bay and the surrounding hills. A place worth visiting there is the Njegoš Mausoleum, a resting place of the poet and philosopher, Petar II Petrović-Njegoš.
